Here are a few must-do’s when visiting in the coming year:
Party at McCall Winter Carnival
For more than 80 years McCall residents have been celebrating all things winter at the annual McCall Winter Carnival. The 10-day party, which takes place Jan. 24 through Feb. 2, 2014, not only features carnival favorites like fireworks, parades, locally inspired food and live music, but also unique events like the town-wide snow-sculpting show and the Barley Brothers Winter Ale Festival. Tickets for the 2014 McCall Winter Carnival events will be available for purchase online and at the McCall Area Chamber of Commerce office on Jan. 5.
Play at Payette Lake
From water skiing to sailing, the adventures abound at McCall’s own Payette Lake. Whether you want to relax on the shores and take in the pristine views or venture out into the deep and experience the vastness of this glacially carved lake, you will surely be astonished by the beauty and serenity that so many residents have come to love.
Idaho remains the huckleberry capital of the U.S., boasting a number of different species of huckleberries that are among the most flavorful and aromatic species found in the entire world. One of the best ways to sample these delicious delicacies is to get out into the nearby groves that surround McCall and pick them yourself. Often found in bogs, open woods and mountain meadows, these sweet treats can be picked almost all year long. (Or, if you’re feeling a little less adventurous, we’ll be happy to shake up a signature huckletini for you right here at the lodge.)
