McCall may be a frosty winter wonderland outside, but come April 4-6 the inaugural Shore Lodge Culinary Festival will bring some serious heat to town. The three-day event will bring culinary enthusiasts and hardcore foodies together with some of Idaho’s top chefs and industry experts for a weekend of education, excitement and yes, fierce competition.
Here’s what’s in store:
Friday, April 4 | Cooking Classes + Meet The Chefs Reception
Chefs will gather and kick off the weekend with an evening of education and entertainment in which guests are welcomed to one of four simultaneous cooking classes, each taught by a featured chef. Afterward, mix and mingle with our celebrity guests during a special Meet The Chefs reception, including heavy passed appetizers and a no-host bar.
Saturday, April 5 | Culinary King Of The Mountain competition
Four Idaho Chefs, including Shore Lodge’s own Chef Steve Topple, will go head-to-head in a fierce competition inspired by Food Network’s hit show, “Chopped.” Each chef will lead a team of four sous chefs – the first lucky 16 to book the exclusive Chef’s package – through three, thirty-minute rounds of cooking. Each round (appetizer, entrée and dessert) will feature a mystery basket of ingredients to be incorporated into the given dish. An esteemed panel of judges will evaluate the plates based on presentation, taste and incorporation of the mystery ingredients. After an elimination following each round, one chef will remain to be crowned the first-ever Culinary King of the Mountain.
During the competition, guests also can enjoy a farmer’s market, featuring local and regional farmers, wineries and purveyors.
Later that evening, the chefs will put their rivalry aside and come together for a collaborative four-course winemaker’s diner featuring Oregon’s Owen Roe Winery. Shore Lodge Sommelier Dave Boyle will join Winemaker David O’Reilly to share the nuances of each pairing during the courses, each prepared by one of our guest chefs.
Sunday April 6 | Farewell Champagne Brunch
On Sunday morning, guests are invited to round off the weekend with a farewell brunch, featuring plenty of celebratory champagne cocktails and Chef tips on making opulent omelets.
