Summer in McCall, Idaho may be short but oh, is it sweet. Locals, visitors and part-time residents flock to the area from June to early November in search of old-fashioned fun in the sun with a mountain town twist. The natural recreation that our area offers is second to none as mountain preserves, state parks and crystal clear lakes and rivers give outdoor lovers the playground of their dreams. As September is fast approaching, and the snow will fly before you know it, consider getting out and enjoying some of our favorite recreational adventures*:
- Kayaking Tours: McCall local Stefanie Woods and the folks at Backwoods Adventures have been in the kayaking business for more than 25 years and offer visitors an invigorating way to see the scenic Upper North Fork of the Payette River. They have both single and tandem kayaks and canoes as well as stand-up paddle boards for hourly, half-day, full day and 24-hour rental. When summer in McCall wraps up, you can also follow the crew down to Baja, Mexico for sea kayaking tours with a tropical twist.
- Mountain Biking: Everyone seems to know that Brundage is the must-do mountain in McCall for winter snow sports, but when summer hits, the lifts are still put to use for adventurous mountain bikers. Take a trek up the mountain via the lift service to gain access to more than 20 miles of single-track biking trails through hundreds of acres of the Payette National Forest.
- White Water Rafting: Serious adrenaline-junkies can travel just a few hours outside of McCall and take on white water rapids with Hells Canyon Adventures. One-day adventures lead groups into the heart of the canyon where they can safely take on raging rivers with expert guides in Coast Guard inspected boats. Lunch and full gear are provided for a trip you won’t soon forget.
