July 2024

Ten millenniums ago, a glacier that stood one thousand feet tall, two-and-a-half miles wide, and eight miles long crept through what was to become Central Idaho, leaving behind one of the Gem State’s greatest recreational locations: Payette Lake.

At just over 5,300 acres of glacial water protected by Ponderosa State Park, the lake offers endless opportunities for true Idaho adventure. And as a guest of Shore Lodge you get to have it as your temporary backyard, with direct access to this remarkable body of water just steps from your room. Countless guests and locals have stories of summers spent in McCall sharing life-long memories of adventures on (and in) Payette Lake.

Guests have a variety of ways to experience the lake, whether by boat, paddle board, or through our private marina for day rentals. Late summer is the perfect time to get out there, with smaller crowds and plenty of sunshine to go around. Pack your swimsuits, sunblock, and flip-flops, and discover the various waterfront ways you can partake in Payette Lake.

Suitable for both beginners and experienced enthusiasts, single and tandem kayak rentals are available for our guests if you’re searching for a peaceful pursuit. Pack light with refreshments and a to-go lunch to venture out on a solo trip, or rent multiple vessels to make it a family excursion where you can explore the coastal areas and hidden coves. Paddle to Rotary Park, where you can spend the early afternoon swimming, playing on the kids’ playground, and enjoying a picnic before making your way back.

Making Waves

Making Waves on Payette Lake

Sometimes, you want to go fast! Exploring Payette Lake by kayak or stand-up paddleboard is exciting but not always up to speed for those chasing an adrenaline rush. For those chasing an adrenaline rush may we suggest slicing through some waves while wakeboarding and water-skiing. Rip through the water, perfect a trick you’ve been practicing, or discover the feeling of just getting your feet underneath you if you’re a beginner. And if you’re looking for something that invokes pure fun and does not require any necessary skills, rent a tube instead. Throttle up and hold on tight for a fast, bumpy ride if you want to catch some airtime.

Now, you’ll need a boat to get out on the water to wakeboard, water ski, or tube. As a Shore Lodge guest, you can moor your boat at our private marina and receive marina service to ensure your boat is ready to go. If you don’t have a boat, no worries! Shore Lodge offers lodging guests the opportunity to rent a vessel. Set sail in our high-performance Pontoon Boat that fits 12 people for your own water fun! Crank the engine to North Beach and drop anchor to enjoy one of Valley County’s summer hot spots. Or take it slow by packing your camera, soaking in the views, and embracing the beauty of the mountains with friends and family.

Lollygagging

For those who would rather dip their toes than jump in, there’s plenty to do ashore while you bask in the sea breeze. Lounge on one of our reclining beach chairs and get your tan on, or check off one of the books you’ve had on your “to-be-read” list. Relax and sit at the shore for some beach yoga, or if you have the kiddos with you, get crafty and build a grand sandcastle. Pave the way for a memorable summer at Shore Lodge by getting inspired by all the lakeside adventures to be had by reading our summer magazine, Around the Campfire. Your dream summer mountain getaway is waiting.
